The Approach - A
Tract
Psalm 68:11; Galatians 6:9; II
Corinthians 9:6
Tracts are an easy way to begin
witnessing to a stranger.
Having gone to a wrong address, I apologized for disturbing the woman
and offered her a tract. She looked at it and remarked, "That's funny,
someone else gave me one of these a week ago." "Fine," I said. "Tell
me, did you read it? .... Yes," she replied. "Wonderful," I continued,
"have you thought much about it?" Her answer was, "That's all I have
been able to think about all week." How thrilling to lead this woman,
prepared of God, so very easily to Christ. The faithful witness who
gave her the first tract will rejoice when he gets to heaven and
learns about the great part he played in her salvation.
Recently in a restaurant I gave a tract to the busboy. He read it and
remarked, "This is something." In a few minutes he received Christ!
Be sure to give tracts out graciously. Never be rude or crude. A good
approach to the average person is to say, "May I give you something
good to read? You will enjoy this when you have a little time." Often
people will ask, "What is this?" or "What's it all about?" You then
have the perfect opening. A further provocative statement is to say
with a smile, "This just tells you how to go to heaven; no one wants
to go to hell, does he?" Practically always
the answer is "No." Graciously then you can ask, "Do you know for sure
you are going to heaven?" Most will answer, "No," again, and you can
ask, "Wouldn't you like to know?" Most will answer, "Yes," and you can
tell them how.
For the more sophisticated, Campus Crusade for Christ at San
Bernardino, California, has an excellent tract with diagrams entitled
Four Spiritual Laws which you can just read to a person and then lead
him to Christ. Tracts should be given out plentifully, for "he which
soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully" (II Cor. 9:6).
If every Christian gave out tracts think what could happen! A clerk
might receive eight or ten in a, day. He would begin to wonder what
was going on and think about it. How easily then for someone to follow
through and lead him to Christ. Many people have aims in life but
never pull the trigger. Don't delay, start today! |
